Check out some of our favourite destinations for budget travel so far!

Here we share our highlights for destinations across North + South America for backpackers, vanlifers and road trippers. We hope to get even more content up to share with you soon.

North America

North America is made for road trips. Wide open roads stretch across breath-taking landscapes, from isolated wilderness to the hearts of bustling cities. You could certainly spend an arm and a leg if you wanted to, but we’re choosing to focus on our top destinations for budget travel.

Even when your pinching the pennies like we were, there is definitely no shortage of adventures to be had. We spent a full two years exploring this incredible continent and there is still so much we didn’t get to see!

Our North America adventure began on Canada’s Pacific coast, specifically Vancouver.

We first headed north to reach the Arctic Circle before being blown away by New England’s spectacular fall in the east. Then we chased the sun south, swimming in the balmy waters of the Gulf and Sea of Cortez; much more pleasant than the Great Lakes of the Midwest, ha!

While the destinations themselves made our nine-month long road trip, the fact that we got to explore in our very own self-converted campervan made it all the more thrilling.

If you too are interested in checking out our conversion and related blog posts then be sure to hop over to our Vanlife page for more info. Otherwise continue below for our favourite destinations for budget travel.

South America

South America is a backpackers dream with numerous destinations for budget travel. Travellers here can explore a little more ‘off the beaten path’ with tons to experience at a fraction of the cost as other parts of the world ($25 USD bungee jumping anyone?!)

Even many of the ‘big names’ can be experienced on a budget. I’m talking the Amazon rainforest, excursions to the epic Machu Picchu and even the famed Galapagos Islands!

The continent of South America certainly earns its place on many travellers bucket-lists, whether they’re seeking destinations for budget travel or not.

We spent 6 month backpacking from Colombia down to Brazil, sharing the most incredible experiences. We are huge advocates for this spectacular part of the world.

Still to come

So, like the rest of the world, Covid has thrown a mini spanner into the works. For now, our ambition to head east has been temporarily put on hold (fingers crossed for Asia/NZ in 2022?!).

But it’s not all doom and gloom.

Returning to Wales, we have discovered a whole new appreciation for just how spectacular our country is! We are also determined to shine a light on more localised destinations for budget travel for now, until the time comes for us to venture further again.

Be sure to follow our Instagram stories for more real-time updates of our journey.

We hope to see you on the road again soon 🙂
